After emancipation in 1834, the Germans were forced to learn "patios" in order to plant yams, bananas, ginger etc, to survive and compete in the market place with the ex-slaves vending similar products.
Many died from malnutrition and other tropical diseases. You will learn about their determination to survive hardships and to become self reliant Jamaican citizens.
Come see the German village and view the Mini Museum, the Roman Catholic Church Cemetery and the basic school when in session. Seaford Town offers accommodation with easy shopping, a gas station, restaurant, churches and excellent roasted pork synonymous with this area.
